Primary Job Responsibilities

PayPal is looking for a Senior UNIX Systems Administrator to join the PayPal Development Infrastructure Operations team. This team is responsible for the infrastructure that supports of the software development, QA and build and release engineering environment before code changes are deployed to the www.paypal.com website. Support of the infrastructure includes the deployment and management of Linux and Solaris servers, troubleshooting, performance tuning, building operating systems images, managing DNS, Web/Apache server administration, allocating SAN storage and creating VCS clusters. The team also works closely with Development, Build Engineering and Source Code Management teams during technology evaluations to discuss feasibility and supportability of the proposed implementation, and influence the design.

The individual is also expected to resolve operational issues focused on NetApp Storage Management, Linux administration and Apache administration. In addition, this role would require participation in 24x7 on call rotation that is rotated within the team.

Job Requirements

• Must possess excellent, demonstrable problem solving skills. Minimum 5 years UNIX / Linux systems administration experience. Exhibits leadership qualities and strong procedural and architectural documentation skills, experience with related tools (such as visio).
• Solid fundamentals in Linux Operating Systems (minimum 5 years)
• Strong Network Appliance Storage experience (multiple filers
  across various geographical locations)
• Strong Apache configuration and troubleshooting skills
• Demonstrate ability to work with teams that are distributed
  across multiple geographical locations.
• Previous work experience in the development, quality assurance,
  release engineering or source code management organization supporting a
  large number of Linux systems is a plus. Experience with the following
  technologies.
• Solid understanding of networking principles
• Hitachi array
• Brocade SAN switches
• VERITAS suite of products, e.g. Advanced VERITAS Volume Manager (VxVM), Veritas Cluster Server (VCS)
• Bind 9 and strong DNS principles
• Nagios, Tivoli and other systems monitoring tools
• Perl, php, bash/sh scripting
• Solaris and Windows Operating Systems a plus
