This position is part of the Technical Support Unit which is responsible for all enterprise server functions that are conducted by the agency and includes other technical units within DTS. As a junior level technician this position will provide technical expertise that installs and implements enterprise server Linux software solutions for the DES. The major components supported are z/VM, SuSE Enterprise Server, WebSphere Application Server, and DB2 for Linux, various major open source components, including Apache, Tomcat, MySQL and Samba on the DES mainframe. This position also monitors and diagnoses problems related to assigned products and evaluates their system performance. This position will be required to work cooperatively and in conjunction with other DTS technical units on projects, problem solving and system software installations and upgrades

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs)
Experienced Junior Technician level KSAs will be required for this position.

Knowledge of: general characteristics and capabilities of the following; IBM software products, specifically z/VM, WebSphere Application Server, DB2 for LINUX, and related products; SuSE Enterprise Server and related LINUX technologies such as Apache, Tomcat, MySQL, and Samba; Computer Associates Clarity product; Java, the Rational family of Integrated Development Environment(IDE) tools; Mainframe security systems including encryption for z/OS, z/VM, and Linux; Microsoft Active Directory; LDAP (Kerberos) security; IBM z/OS operating systems.

Skills in: LINUX based software installation and implementation utilities such as YaST, YaST Online Update (YOU); Monitoring, measuring the performance of LINUX and related software products; Diagnosing and trouble-shooting problems on LINUX and related software products; establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work. Relationships include vendors, cross divisional staff; agency program staff, agency senior management, as well as staff and management of other governmental and private sector entities; leading and coordinating various projects with a variety of other staff to completion.

Abilities to: rapidly transition work activities from defining "big picture" needs to working on the minuscule details of a concept, problem, and/or project activities; contribute information on impacts of proposed automation projects as it relates to this position's functional responsibilities; write and/or contributes to the development of detail documents and project plans; identifies or assist with identifying project tasks; to express technical information in oral and written form to technical and non-technical personnel; to understand integration of hardware and software components to effectively analyze, evaluate, draw logical conclusions and solve complex operating system problems.

Desired/Ideal Candidate: will have two or more years of junior level Enterprise Server technician experience which required the application of the above reference KSAs. These would include installation, configuration, and troubleshooting of LINUX software products and systems; JAVA and the Rational family of Integrated Development Environment (IDE) tools and Mainframe security systems with encryption for Z/OS, z/VM and LINUX. Experience with Microsoft Active Directory and LDAP (Kerberos) security is a plus.
